Y Stories | Rowan West: Recipient of the 2020 Leslie Bruce Bursary

Leslie Bruce (Fee) was an active Glenburn camper and staff member who was deeply involved in environmental education. To honour her work, the Bruce family created a bursary that goes to a deserving camper who is passionate about environmental causes.
Rowan West was the 2020 recipient of the Leslie Bruce Bursary. From a young age, West has been passionate about the environment and loves being outside.
“There are so many simple things we can all do to make our world a better place,” says Rowan West. “Like pick up garbage, use the outdoor elements to our advantage, and so much more.”
Leslie Bruce was a natural leader and inspired others to do their part in respecting the environment. West feels she is able to carry on her legacy by leading by example. “When others see how much I care about the environment, they want to learn more about how they can help,” says West.
The Leslie Bruce Bursary allowed for West to participant in this year’s Leadership program all summer. When asked about what her favourite part about Camp Glenburn was, West couldn’t narrow it down. “I love everything about this place, the entire camp is my favourite place in the world.”
