Volunteer with the Y

Volunteers are at the heart of the Y.
That’s why the Y is at the heart of the community.

There are opportunities for you to get involved. Regardless of age, experience or how much time you can commit, you can make a difference in the lives of others. As a Y volunteer, you might lead an exercise class, welcome new immigrants, mentor young people, produce a special event or advise on local issues.

Volunteer Spotlight

Meet Bruce

Bruce has been a member of the Y for 65+ years for the youth recreation and social programs. When it came time for him to retire, he sought to reinvent himself by volunteering. He’s a Fitness Ambassador, a member of the fitness volunteer team, and more. In 2019, he volunteered a record-breaking 266 hours!

“My experience at the Y has been that the people are very accepting and encouraging. I can’t recommend it enough.

Meet Joan

Meet Joan. Joan has been a volunteer at the Y for 25 years and you can find her teaching our Group Fitness classes. She’s made many lifelong friends here at the YMCA.

She has so many wonderful memories from her time here and wants everyone to be as fit active and healthy as they can be.

“Your Y friends are your best friends,” she says.

Meet Marlene

Marlene first started volunteering in the Newcomer Connections’ Mom & Baby classes as a way to socialize and stay active in her community. During the classes, she spends time with the children while their mothers learn English. She loves bonding with the children and watching them grow every week.

Why should you become a volunteer? Marlene will tell you, “Come out and try it because you may like it — because it’s fun!”
