YMCA of Southwestern New Brunswick Celebrates Opening of YMCA Quispamsis Child Care Centre in Partnership with Shannex
Quispamsis, N.B. – The YMCA of Southwestern New Brunswick, in partnership with Shannex, is thrilled to announce the opening of the YMCA Quispamsis Child Care Centre. This new facility, located at 20 Millennium Drive within the Parkland in the Valley community, represents a significant step forward in providing accessible, high-quality child care to meet the growing needs of families in the region.
Through this partnership, we’re also creating opportunities for intergenerational programming that will foster meaningful connections between seniors and children, enriching the lives of both generations.
“We are thrilled to open the doors of the YMCA Quispamsis Child Care Centre today,” said Shilo Boucher, President and CEO of the YMCA of Southwestern New Brunswick. “This new location is a testament to our ongoing commitment to supporting families and fostering community connections. We look forward to offering a welcoming and enriching environment for children, where they can learn, grow, and thrive.”
Parkland in the Valley is a vibrant seniors’ community, home to over 200 seniors, including 130 living independently in retirement apartments and an additional 72 residents in Embassy Hall, a Shannex Enhanced Care licensed nursing home.
The collaboration with Shannex, alongside support from the Governments of Canada and New Brunswick, underscores a united effort to address the demand for early learning and child care services while promoting intergenerational connections. The YMCA Quispamsis Child Care Centre is designed not only to provide exceptional early learning and child care but also to create a space where children and seniors can engage in meaningful interactions, fostering a strong sense of community and mutual respect.
“We’ve been working with the YMCA of Southwestern New Brunswick to create a child care centre at this location for some time and we are thrilled to see itcome to life,” said Derek Green, Vice President, New Brunswick Operations at Shannex. “Through the partnership, we’ll establish a variety of meaningful intergenerational activities which are fulfilling for participants and leave a lasting impression on everyone involved.”
“We recognize the importance of accessible and quality child care in our province,” said Department of Education and Early Childhood Development Minister Bill Hogan. “This new centre is a wonderful example of how partnerships can lead to innovative solutions that benefit families and strengthen our province.”
“More parents need access to affordable, high-quality child care in their communities,” said Jenna Sudds, federal Minister of Families, Children and Social Development. “These new spots will make a big difference for families in Quispamsis, providing parents with the support they need while ensuring every child has the best possible start in life.”
The YMCA of Southwestern New Brunswick is committed to supporting families through comprehensive child care services and creating spaces where all members of the community can come together. The YMCA Quispamsis Child Care Centre is a prime example of this commitment in action, providing essential services and fostering a nurturing environment for children to grow.
