SAINT JOHN – The YMCA of Southwestern New Brunswick is now accepting nominations for the 2025 YMCA Peace Medallion, presented to individuals or groups whose grassroots contributions embody the values of P-E-A-C-E. The medal will be awarded during YMCA Peace Week, November 16–23, 2025.
YMCA Peace Week is a national initiative that shines a spotlight on the ongoing work of building peace – inside and outside YMCA walls – through dialogue, inclusion, reconciliation, and community engagement.
“Peace is not passive, it’s living and breathing in the relationships we nurture, the barriers we break down, and the bridges we build,” says Shilo Boucher, President & CEO of the YMCA of Southwestern New Brunswick. “As part of YMCA Peace Week, the Peace Medallion allows us to recognize those whose actions bring us closer to belonging, respect, and collective well-being – values that are at the very heart of the Y.”
Since 1987, YMCAs across Canada have honoured more than 1,900 individuals and groups through the Peace Medallion. This award celebrates people who, often with limited means, power, or visibility, commit to building peace in local, national, or global communities.
