YMCA of Greater Saint John to run programs for all ages in Eastern Charlotte County
Saint John, NB – The YMCA of Greater Saint John has partnered with the Village of Blacks Harbour to develop and implement programming for Eastern Charlotte County residents of all ages. Programming will take place at the Patrick Connors Recreation Complex in Blacks Harbour, thanks to the decision made by the Blacks Harbour Council.
“Blacks Harbour Council has agreed to partner with the YMCA to utilize the arena complex to hold programs for all ages,” said Mayor Craig of Blacks Harbour. “This decision will breathe new life into a major asset of the community by utilizing the building on a year-round basis.”
The initiative will focus on closing the gaps the community has identified and addressing community health needs. Currently, there is limited recreational and health and wellness programming in this region. This project will create safe spaces for children to learn and grow, provide mentoring for youth, provide programs and services for all ages that are welcoming and engaging, and create volunteer and employment opportunities in the community.
“The Y is thrilled to be able to bring our resources and knowledge to help drive positive impact and enrich lives in the village of Blacks Harbour, “said Shilo Boucher, President and CEO of the YMCA of Greater Saint John. “Making programs and services available to the community removes barriers for access to quality health and recreation for all.”
Program planning is underway with the goal of offering a mixture of recreation programming to meet the needs of the community through a drop-in fee community access-based model.
