Saint John, NB – November 15, 2024 –The YMCA of Southwestern New Brunswick is honored to announce Kathy Dumouchel as the 2024 recipient of the YMCA Peace Medal, recognizing her lifetime of service and deep commitment to fostering peace, empathy, and community. Kathy was celebrated on Friday, November 15, for her extraordinary contributions, which exemplify the YMCA’s mission to create inclusive and supportive communities where everyone feels valued and connected.

Since her first volunteer experience at the age of twelve, Kathy’s journey has been defined by compassion, resilience, and a dedication to supporting those in need. From her work in food security with initiatives like the Harbour Lights campaign and the Brown Bag Lunch program to her role in victim services with the Saint John Police Force, Kathy’s actions have touched countless lives. Through every act, she sends a message of support, dignity, and belonging to those facing life’s most challenging moments.

At the YMCA, peace is more than the absence of conflict; it’s a commitment to building spaces where empathy and understanding thrive. YMCA Peace Week, held from November 16-23, is dedicated to recognizing individuals like Kathy who inspire us through their efforts in advocacy, community-building, and service. Kathy’s work in food security, trauma support, and community initiatives reflects the YMCA’s mission to foster inclusive and safe spaces for everyone.
