After School Care at Fundy Shores School Set to Begin for Fall 2024

Dipper Harbour, N.B. August 23rd – The YMCA of Southwestern New Brunswick is thrilled to announce the launch of its After School care services at Fundy Shores School starting in the fall of 2024. This initiative aims to provide much-needed support to families in the Rural Community of Fundy Shores by offering quality, licensed After School care.

“On behalf of myself and the Rural Community of Fundy Shores’ council, we are excited to see After School care being offered at the Fundy Shores School and want to welcome the YMCA of Southwestern New Brunswick to our community. Thank you for being a partner in growing our community,” said Fundy Shores Mayor Denny Cogswell.

In March 2024, the Rural Community of Fundy Shores conducted a childcare survey among residents and stakeholders. The results revealed an overwhelming demand for After School care services. Collaborating with Fundy Shores School and the Anglophone South School District (ASD-S), the municipality sought a solution. In June 2024, ASD-S issued a Request for Proposal (RFP), and the YMCA of Southwestern New Brunswick emerged as the successful applicant.

The YMCA will operate a licensed After School program for children aged 5-12. The program will run from school dismissal until 6 p.m., Monday to Friday, offering children ample opportunities for physical activities, outdoor play, and exploration of their interests through arts, crafts, science, reading, and more.

“We are excited to begin operating in Fundy Shores and to offer a quality, licensed After School care option for families in the community. We understand the need for reliable care and are looking forward to the opportunity to provide this service,” stated Paige Scott, Manager of Community and Program Development in Eastern Charlotte County. “Our mission at the YMCA of Southwestern New Brunswick is creating community impacts in Southern New Brunswick, and we are happy to be doing so in Fundy Shores.”

“This aligns with our strategic working document set by residents and council. The new program is a stepping stone to providing future daycare services. Our goal is to lighten the load of our hard-working families. We want them to have access to affordable, high-quality, reliable care for their children,” added Mayor Cogswell.

Fundy Shores’ economic development agency, Synergi, played a significant role in this achievement. “Providing childcare to the area will not only help attract new businesses and families but also shows that Fundy Shores is open for business and aims for long-term growth,” said Brian Cooke, Executive Director of Synergi. “This is a win-win for the community, businesses, and families.”

The YMCA of Southwestern New Brunswick looks forward to fostering a supportive and enriching environment for the children of Fundy Shores, ensuring they have access to the care and opportunities they need to thrive.

Please stay tuned for registration information and our grand opening date!
