Saint John Regional Y Marks 10 Years as a Catalyst for Community Growth

SAINT JOHN, N.B. - The YMCA of Southwestern New Brunswick is proud to announce the 10th anniversary of the Saint John Regional Y facility, a cornerstone of community wellness, inclusion, and growth in the region, since it opened its doors in 2015.
To mark this milestone, the Y is hosting a community-wide celebration and open house on Thursday, September 11, 2025, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Saint John Regional Y’s location on Churchill Boulevard. The event is free and open to all, featuring tours, activities, music, a global fashion show, Brazilian BBQ, and more.

“This facility was built on the dreams and generosity of our community, and in just ten years, it has become so much more than a gym or a pool, it’s a hub where lives are changed every day,” said Shilo Boucher, President & CEO of the YMCA of Southwestern New Brunswick.

“From welcoming hundreds of newcomers, to launching youth mentorship and workforce readiness programs, to supporting thousands through our Strong Communities campaign, the Saint John Regional Y is proof of what happens when a community comes together with vision and purpose.”

Since opening, the Saint John Regional Y has been a catalyst for growth, sparking the renewal of two outdoor education centres and positioning the Y as a partner in larger-scale community projects such as the development of the Irving Oil Field House. Building on this momentum, the YMCA of Southwestern New Brunswick has expanded from 16 to 21 program sites across southwestern New Brunswick. YMCA programs support children, youth, families, newcomers, and seniors – connecting more than 85,000 people last year alone to programs and services that improve health, build skills, and foster belonging.
The opening of the Saint John Regional Y in 2015 was the result of a historic $19 million capital campaign. The facility was intentionally built in the city’s north end, to maximize accessibility and impact.

“This anniversary is about celebrating a decade of collective achievement,” added Boucher. “It’s also about looking forward and ensuring that the Y continues to grow, adapt, and shine for the next generation.”
