Rose and Lori’s Y Story

Rose and I joined the Saint John Regional Y on July 1st 2016. She called it her “Independence Day”.

Although she said it was the hardest day, Rose loved the facility and the wonderful friendly staff that greeted her every time she walked through the doors. She felt welcomed and not judged.

Rose started off by doing Dusty Sneaker and Zumba classes. They were perfect for her, until she gained some confidence in herself. And Rose was always willing to try new things. We signed up for the Women on Weights course and had some sessions with one of the trainers. Soon Tabata and Core and Boot Camp classes replaced Dusty Sneakers.  This is when Rose really started to flourish. We also did our own Tabata workouts in the studio room and we used the weights and cardio machines. Working out with Rose was enjoyable and always amusing!

As a teen Rose was very athletic and has always been a fierce competitor. Seeing this spark again in my work out buddy and best friend pushed me to work harder also. In only 5 months Rose had lost almost 30 pounds, plenty of inches and had gained so much more self confidence.

Rose always looked forward to her workouts at the Y. Seeing how much she enjoyed it, her husband Kevin and son Tyler soon joined. I know Rose would want to thank everyone at the Y; the friendly front desk staff, instructors and trainers for all their help, advice and friendly talks along this journey that was cut far too short.

-Rose Hooley passed away unexpectedly on December 21st, 2016. Everyone in the Y family sends their deepest sympathies to her family and friends. We will miss Rose’s bright smile and positive attitude.
