Settlement Support

Enjoy a warm welcome and learn about your new community. Our Settlement Services is where thousands of newcomers find useful information and helpful support in starting their new life in Canada.

These services are available for all Newcomer Connections clients. If you are already a client and looking for settlement support, email us at

The Newcomer Connections Settlement Team helps permanent residents settle successfully in southwestern New Brunswick. Our skilled and experienced settlement workers:

· Meet with newcomers to find out how best to help them
· Provide relevant information and guidance
· Provide relevant life skills training so that newcomers settle successfully in the community
· Refer newcomers to services and programs that are useful to them
· Connect newcomers to the community
· Help newcomer children to register at and settle into their new school and community

The dedicated members of our settlement team work with newcomer clients to create a settlement plan – a detailed description of a person’s goals in various areas of life – and then work together to determine the steps needed to achieve those goals.

Health Support

Our Health Liaison is able to support permanent residents navigate our New Brunswick Healthcare System through:

· Providing information on how to register for a family doctor
· Building relationships with the healthcare community in southwestern New Brunswick
· Supporting clients with significant language barriers book appointments

This service is only available to registered Newcomer Connections clients, through our Settlement Services.

Interpretation Support

Our small team of community language-speakers are here to assist permanent residents with low-English levels access our broader settlement services and programs. They can:

· Translate basic forms & document
· Interpret during meetings with YNC staff
· Teach clients how to navigate the city through buses
· Assist clients in attending appointments in a new place (ie; ·
find doctors offices, register at the hospital…etc)

Interpreters cannot be booked by clients directly, this services can only be accessed through one of our other YNC staff.

Languages spoken: French, Spanish, Arabic, Ukrainian, Mandarin, Cantonese, Farsi, Tigrinya, Amharic, Swahili, Lingala, Somali, Kirundi, Kinyarwanda, and more.
