Memorial Bursary Provides Unique Camp Experience

The David Walker Memorial Bursary was set up by the Walker family in memory of their son, David (Fyn). The fund allows youth to attend a unique leadership camp, and for 14-year-old Josh Power it provided his first camp experience, which was one that he will remember forever.

“Being in nature for two weeks was amazing,” Josh said. “I loved our out-trip because we canoed to an awesome waterfall and went swimming.”

During camp, Josh was able to meet Julian Walker, David’s father. He shared how he loved learning about David and his passion for Glenburn and outdoor adventures.

The connections Josh made at camp have inspired him to continue his leadership journey next summer. He plans to apply for Camp Glenburn’s Counsellor in Training program and help showcase the magic of camp to other youth.

Josh explained how although he was older during his first camp experience, he is so happy he went to Glenburn and is excited to go back.

“It was amazing how welcomed I felt at camp. I was a little nervous going at first because I didn’t know anyone, but as soon as I got there my nerves disappeared. I had so much fun.”
