Local Employers Celebrated for Championing Inclusive Hiring at YMCA Event
The YMCA of Southwestern New Brunswick is hosting a Newcomer Employment Champions (NEC) Summer Engagement Event, bringing together more than 200 employers, newcomer families, and community leaders to celebrate inclusive hiring and share practical tools for workforce
integration. The event recognizes local employers who are helping shape a more inclusive, skilled, and resilient regional workforce by welcoming newcomers into their organizations.
As labour shortages continue to challenge businesses across the region, many employers are looking to newcomers - who often arrive highly educated and skilled - as a vital talent pool. The NEC Program goes beyond cultural competency, providing hands-on tools to help employers
effectively hire, onboard, and retain immigrant talent. “Employers across our region are stepping up - not just to fill jobs, but to create welcoming, inclusive workplaces where everyone can succeed,” said Shilo Boucher, President & CEO of theYMCA of Southwestern New Brunswick. “We’re proud to support their efforts and celebrate the ways they’re helping shape a stronger, more diverse workforce for our community.”
The NEC Program was developed through the Saint John Local Immigration Partnership and is funded through WorkingNB. The initiative is led by the YMCA of Southwestern New Brunswick’s Newcomer Connections team, with support from community stakeholders and local champions like Envision Saint John: The Regional Growth Agency.
“The Newcomer Employment Champions Program is a tremendous asset to our region, and we are proud to support it,” said Daniel Rito, Director of Workforce Development & Population Growth at Envision Saint John. “We believe in helping employers create more welcoming and inclusive workplaces for new residents. Events like this offer a wonderful opportunity for staff and their families to connect with the community and enjoy all it has to offer.”
The NEC Summer Engagement takes place on Saturday, July 26th at the Y’s Glenn Carpenter Centre from 1:00 – 4:00 p.m.
