Empowering JDI Employees with Our 12-week Multi-Level Language Classes

At the YMCA, we are committed to creating opportunities where confidence blossoms, potential shines, and individuals thrive. One such example is the recent success of our Newcomer Connection team in delivering a transformative 12-week Multi-Level Language Class. This initiative, tailored for employees of J.D. Irving, supported professionals from diverse fields, including IT and Finance, to enhance their communication skills and cultural understanding. The program empowered participants to excel in their roles within the Canadian workplace and beyond.
The Multi-Level Language Class was developed to meet the unique needs of 12 talented individuals, whose experience in Canada ranged from six months to several years. Delivered virtually, the program connected participants across Fredericton, Moncton, and Saint John, creating an inclusive and supportive learning environment. With a focus on both professional and personal growth, the program offered invaluable tools for navigating the complexities of workplace communication and culture in Canada.
Through this program, participants achieved remarkable milestones:
- Mastering Workplace Conversations: Participants gained confidence in handling short conversations and embracing workplace cultural expectations.
- Enhancing Communication Confidence: Skills in workplace communication were strengthened, fostering clarity and professionalism.
- Decoding Workplace Idioms: Understanding common idioms enhanced participants’ ability to navigate informal and formal interactions.
- Practicing Public Speaking: Guided exercises in public speaking equipped participants to thrive in professional conversations.
The impact of the program extended far beyond language skills. By the end of the 12 weeks, participants not only improved their communication abilities but also built stronger workplace connections. This boost in confidence and sense of belonging contributed to greater productivity and inclusivity within their teams. The program fostered growth for individuals and positively influenced the broader community, promoting retention and development within the workforce.
We are incredibly proud of what this program has accomplished and are deeply grateful for the opportunity to make a difference. The YMCA remains dedicated to creating inclusive workplaces where everyone has the tools they need to succeed.
