City of Saint John Proclaims May as YMCA Month – Celebrating 170 Years of Community Impact
Saint John, NB – The City of Saint John proudly announces May as YMCA Month, a time to honor the remarkable legacy and ongoing contributions of the YMCA to the community. With a proclamation from the city, May will be dedicated to recognizing the profound influence the YMCA has had on fostering community spirit, promoting health and wellness, and empowering individuals of all backgrounds.
“I’m thrilled to declare May as YMCA Month in The City of Saint John,” shared Mayor Donna Noade Reardon. “With 170 years of enriching our community, the YMCA has been a cornerstone of support, wellness, and opportunity. We’re excited to celebrate their legacy and the countless lives they’ve touched. Here’s to another 170 years of making a difference together!”
For over 170 years, the YMCA has served as a beacon of hope and a catalyst for positive change in Saint John and our surrounding communities. Through its unwavering commitment to values of community service, healthy living, and youth development, the YMCA has become an integral part of the fabric of our city, bringing people together and creating opportunities for growth and connection.
To celebrate YMCA Month, the City of Saint John, in collaboration with the YMCA, has organized a series of exciting community events throughout the month. Residents are invited to participate in a variety of activities, including the Susan Hachey Walk-a-thon, YMCA Healthy Kids Day Open House, Red Triangle Awards Gala, and the culminating YMCA Fishing Derby on June 1. These events serve as a testament to the YMCA’s dedication to promoting wellness, fostering community engagement, and enriching the lives of Saint John residents.
“We’re ecstatic the City has declared May as YMCA Month in Saint John,” shared Shilo Boucher, President and CEO of the YMCA of Southwestern New Brunswick. “For 17 decades the YMCA has served the community ensuring to adapt and create positive impact to drive our community forward, we hope this is felt by all in our community. This month-long celebration isn’t about the Y but the significance of charitable work in our community and how it continues to lift us all whether through volunteering, donating or participating together. We invite all residents to join us in our continued service to the community by joining us in the exciting events planned throughout May.”
Throughout YMCA Month, individuals and families are encouraged to explore the diverse programs and services offered by the YMCA, from fitness classes and recreational activities to childcare and youth programs and our diverse Newcomer Connections Hub. By engaging with the YMCA, residents can experience firsthand the positive influence it has on the community, the sense of belonging created and opportunities for personal growth and enrichment.
