YMCA Honours Local Peacemakers 2017
(Saint John, New Brunswick) – From November 18 – 25, during YMCA Peace Week, the YMCA of Greater Saint John, together with YMCAs across Canada, celebrate the presence of peace in our communities, and reflect on the peace-building work that happens all year both inside and outside the YMCA.

Through its Rainbows program, the YMCA of Greater Saint John provides peer-support for children and youth dealing with death, divorce or other painful family transition or life-altering crisis in a safe and caring environment. A $5,000 grant is helping the Y provide the program free of charge in the region’s school system, making it easily accessible. The Foundation also supported Rainbows in 2016 with a $5,000 grant.

A special highlight of this week is the presentation of YMCA Peace Medals to individuals or groups who, without any special resources, demonstrate a commitment to the values of PEACE through contributions made within their local, national or global community. Peacemakers are recognized for promoting and inspiring Participation, Empathy, Advocacy, Community and Empowerment.

Funds raised will support of the YMCA’s Strong Kids campaign, which ensures everyone has access to Y programs.

We had so much fun at the 2nd Annual Indoor Triathlon. A big thank you and congratulations to everyone who came out to swim, bike and run around the Saint John Regional Y in support of our YMCA Strong Kids Campaign. More than $4,500 was raised to help people of all ages and stages attend Y programs.
