Established in 2017, this dynamic group is all about supporting youth, building meaningful connections and creating real opportunities for personal and professional growth.

As a member, you’ll collaborate on initiatives that matter. Everything from employability programs and city-wide youth retention efforts to sharing ideas with YMCAs around the world.
We believe youth voices aren’t just welcome, they’re essential in decision-making, innovation and meaningful change.

Meet Our Executive

The Youth Council is comprised of between 4 - 10 volunteers who are working to connect with young people throughout Southwestern New Brunswick. They help to provide insight on YMCA strategic initiatives that will drive change for youth within our region.

Tyler

Tyler Patterson


Tyler is a recent graduate of the Social Services Community Worker Program at NBCC who is passionate in community development, outreach and advocating, they look forward to using these skills during their time as a Youth Council member to represent the community.

Sam

Sam Tong


Sam is a bilingual community leader with a strong background in youth engagement, public speaking, and safety instruction. With experience at the YMCA of Southwestern New Brunswick, Sam is passionate about empowering young people and fostering inclusive, active communities.

Joelynn

Joelynn Annoh-Kwafo


Joelynn is an MD candidate (Doctor of Medicine) with a background in Biology-Psychology and Early Childhood Education. She is passionate about empowering others and creating positive change in her community, drawing on her experience with the YMCA Southern New Brunswick and other community organizations. Joelynn values advocacy and collaboration, working to support youth in developing their potential and making a meaningful impact in healthcare and beyond.

Haley

Haley Cheney


Haley has over five years of experience working with the YMCA, where she has developed a strong foundation in youth programming and community engagement. Since joining the Youth Council last year and through leadership roles within NBCC’s Student government, she has been actively involved in initiatives that amplify young voices and support her community. A recent graduate of NBCC with a focus in Human Resources, Haley combines her educational background with her passion for empowering youth and fostering inclusive, supportive communities.
