We are thrilled to announce we are currently recruiting young adults through greater Saint John to join the YMCA Youth Council. If you are between the ages of 19 and 30, love your community, and want to create a positive, impactful change then this opportunity is for you! The YMCA Youth Council values and is seeking diverse perspectives, backgrounds, and ideas. 

The YMCA of Greater Saint John Youth Council is a volunteer-based committee of young professionals and post-secondary students in the Saint John region who are passionate about growing our community.

Our Purpose & Goal

The Youth Council was formed in September 2017, with a goal to serve as a forum for open dialogue between the Y and the youth population within greater Saint John. Throughout the past 6 years, the council has provided mentorship to YMCA young leaders, hosted workshops and developed recommendations for the City of Saint John’s growth committee, engaged community stakeholders, and facilitated an employability program curriculum for the Y.

The council is working towards a collaboration with national YMCA programs in order to act as a launching pad for more opportunities. The council has also represented the YMCA of Greater Saint John internationally at the YMCA 175 – a global youth conference with a goal to help shape a positive and sustainable future, the 20th World Council ’22 in Denmark, which hosted the highest governing bodies of the global YMCA.

In addition to their work, the Y’s Youth Council was nominated for a Faces of Fusion Community Builder Award in 2019.

Since it’s formation, the council has adapted to the needs of the Saint John region and has worked on a variety of initiatives. In line with the YMCA’s goal of creating a sense of belonging in all avenues, the council is currently seeking individuals to help achieve this by contributing to their community in an impactful way.
