LINC (Language Instruction for Newcomers to Canada)

At Newcomer Connections, we offer the Language Instruction for Newcomers to Canada (LINC) program. This government-funded program can help you improve your English speaking, listening, reading and writing skills and learn about Canadian culture. LINC classes utilize the latest technological approaches that effectively facilitate language development.

We use the Canadian Language Benchmarks (CLB) and Portfolio-Based Learning Assessments (PBLA) as standards to assess our clients’ language progress. Our classes range from CLB 1-8.

To be enrolled in LINC, clients must set up an appointment for their CLB Placement Test. Once their language results are out, the Language Program Advisor will assign clients to their appropriate English-level class. We know our clients are busy, if you cannot attend LINC classes in person, Monday to Friday, you may be eligible for Online LINC courses, depending on your placement results.

LINC classes are offered daily, Monday to Friday. Classes are offered 3 times a day:

Morning Value 9:00am – 12:00pm
Afternoon 1:00pm – 4:00pm
Evening 5:00pm – 8:00pm

Eligibility

You’re eligible for free LINC classes if you meet these criteria:

  • You reside in Southwestern New Brunswick
  • You are a Temporary Resident (CUAET, International Students, Work Permits or Spousal Work Permit holders) or a Permanent Resident (including Government Assisted Refugees and Privately Supported Refugees).
  • You are 18 years of age or older

We’re here to support you on your language learning journey!

Whether you’re waiting to join a LINC class or seeking extra support, our Conversation Circle is here. We offer a relaxed space to practice speaking English, improve pronunciation, pick up some helpful tips, or enjoy companionship.

Led by one of our friendly language teachers, these sessions offer guided conversations where you can chat with others and discover something new. Our Conversation Circle warmly welcomes both temporary and permanent residents of all language levels, though having a basic ability to speak English is recommended.
