During a visit with his family doctor in October 2014, Joe Mackin was diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes. He also suffered from chronic knee and back pain. Medication was not helping and Joe knew he had to change his lifestyle in order to have a lifestyle.
Exercise and healthy living soon became a part of Joe’s regular routine. He joined the Saint John Regional Y shortly after the grand opening in September 2015.
“This gave me the variety that I was looking for,” he said. Soon Joe’s medication was significantly reduced. He has lost nearly 60 pounds. and dropped 5 pant sizes.
“Now my family doctor has eliminated my diabetic medication and this has increased my motivation to continue this new lifestyle,” Joe said.
