About Us

We recognize and respectfully acknowledge that the YMCA of Southwestern New Brunswick operates on the unceded and unsurrendered homelands of the Wolastoqiyik, Peskotomuhkati and Mi’kmaq peoples. This statement is a symbol of our commitment to implementing the 94 calls to action put forth by the Truth and Reconciliation commission in all operations across our organization.

WE ARE THE YMCA

We are a family working together to serve more than 45,000 people across the southwestern New Brunswick area. We believe in helping children, youth, adults, seniors and families reach their full potential. We are a charity dedicated to strengthening the foundations of our community.

For more than 170 years we’ve cared for kids, shaped leaders for tomorrow and helped generations of people come together to find support, get healthier and make friends for life. We are determined to be a genuine, welcoming, hopeful place that is nurturing and fun. This is the community we want. A community where we share a sense of social responsibility, and where we can experience better health in spirit, mind and body.

Child Protection

The YMCA of Southwestern New Brunswick is fully committed to safeguarding the welfare of all children in its care and vulnerable persons accessing YMCA programs and services. We all share a responsibility to protect children and vulnerable persons from harm.

YMCA staff and volunteers must meet standards in order to be hired by producing acceptable police record checks and clearance letters. YMCA staff and volunteers participate in mandatory training before commencement of employment and ongoing re-fresher training annually. Policies and procedures are in place to guide YMCA staff and volunteers and are reviewed each year.

The YMCA recognizes its responsibility to promote safe environments and practices and to protect children and vulnerable persons from abuse and exploitation.
